From Don Dixon (brother in law of Ray’s brother John) via Email:
It was about 1952 that I told Ray (Baldwin) that I was looking for a car. In short order he found me a 1937 chevy 4 door sedan which looked GREAT TO ME for my age. Brother Bill. Bill’s father-in-law and I traveled to Wamego to purchase the car and drive it back to KC. All was well with the car for a good time, but then had some motor issues. Thankfully I had a cousin (Harold Schawo) in the KCK area who was working at the Steel Mill with my dad. Harold took the car and rebuilt the and it drove like a new Cadillac. Later, Carleen and sister Joanne were driving to the Grandparents farm and a wire powering the radio broke and Carleen held the wires together while we traveled to the farm so we could play the radio in the car (HEY, WE WERE YOUNG). Sometime later Ray was working at a Chevrolet Dealership in downtown KC and I bought a 1955 Chev Sports Coupe from him – GREAT CAR – GREAT MEMORIES.
I enjoyed being with your Mom and Dad as I was working my way through high school and beginning to learn to be an adult with adult problems. Both Ray and John (Baldwin, 1909-1967) were quite the MEN FOR THE TIME. Have great memories of visits with them, learning from their experiences and the GREAT FAMILY EXPERIENCE which they brought to the group.
